They are nuclear-holocaust hot.

I’m starting from seed, I’ve got a few bhut jolokia, habanero, jalapeno, and cayenne plants sprouting. unfortunately as they “breed” these things to be hotter and hotter, the plants get more and more fragile. the seed packet even says the jolokias might have “dormant” seeds and are slow to germinate.

H abanero are the best tasting hot pepper imo.

See, that’s just what I don’t understand. I love spicy things and hot things, but once it’s to the point that you can’t eat it without instantly crying, you can’t taste anything anymore. What’s the point of hot without flavor once you’ve done it once?

I also like the Serrano. I'll be looking to try the Fresno. Trader Joe's has an excellent habañero sauce...

Please be sure to report back on that.
The Thai Peppers are a good source for a bit of pure heat without a lot of flavor. My lunch gudge that I make each day I use three different hot sauces as well as fresh hot peppers.

once they start fruiting I’ll probably put up a post. if you were anywhere near Detroit I’d probably unload a bunch on you. I’ve grown habaneros for the past few years, and the plants do little more than let flowers drop off until late July or early August. then I’m buried in peppers.

I'll have to give Serrano's a try

Yeah some people just want the burn. I like a lot of heat but I want flavor first and foremost.

When the time comes, I’ll email you a PDF label for a Priority Mail Small Flat Rate Box and you can fill it with habaneros for me.

I want some of both flavor and heat. I don’t care for the jalapeno as much because the flavor is too strong for my liking. The Serrano has a more subtle flavor and more heat, though there are some very hot jalapenos out there.
I learned about the Fresno pepper from someone here on Oppo and I aim to give them a try soon.

Yeah Jalapenos are all over the place.

This is my favorite hot sauce to make. I have gone through something like 4-5 gallons of this in the past 9 months alone.

I’ve grown jalapenos both that were super hot and that were sweet (like a bell pepper). On the same plant. It was weird, and because I was growing them right next to some cayenne, I wonder if it was some strange cross-pollination where one got all the hot genes, and one got all the latent sweet genes.
